Dublin's Grand Canal Square by Martha Schwartz Partners

— April 8, 2010 — Art & Design
When I think of Ireland, I do not--not even in the slightest--imagine something like Dublin's Grand Canal Square. Granted, it has been recently revamped and it borders a thriving metropolis (not the country hills and ancient ruins I envision), but still.

Designed by Martha Schwartz Partners, the Grand Canal Square complements the newly erected Grand Canal Theater. According to Schwartz herself, "The scheme was to create a vibrant, energetic space that would flow naturally into the dynamic and expressive volume of [Daniel] Liebeskind’s theater." Check out the gallery to see the redesign--it's trés modern.
