The Glass Ridge House blends philosophy with California minimalism

— August 28, 2025 — Art & Design
The Glass Ridge House is a transformed 1973 modernist home reimagined as a serene retreat by OWIU Design. Nestled in the hills of La Cañada Flintridge, the renovation harmonizes natural surroundings with architecture. A koi pond embraces the entry, while an indoor stream flows beneath glass panels, creating a calming rhythm throughout the home. The remodeled pool extends into the landscape so that water, trees, and distant hills appear seamlessly integrated into daily life. Every design choice emphasizes balance, tranquility, and a dialogue between structure and environment.

Carefully selected details reflect a blend of cultural influences. Traditional Japanese tatami mats crafted by artisans in Fukushima line the sunken living area and a custom bed frame, adding warmth and continuity. A dedicated tea bar features shimmering ceramic tiles by Hashimoto Tomonari, creating a space for reflection and ritual. The result is a modern sanctuary that celebrates both craftsmanship and landscape.
