Generic Pulmonary Hypertension Drugs

Zydus and MSN Launch the First U.S. Generic Riociguat

Zydus Lifesciences and MSN Laboratories are expanding generic pulmonary hypertension drugs with the first U.S. generic version of Adempas (riociguat). FDA-approved Riociguat Tablets are available in five strengths ranging from 0.5 mg to 2.5 mg for adults with certain forms of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary arterial hypertension. Developed and manufactured by MSN, the treatment introduces a generic option for patients who previously had access only to the branded drug.

The launch demonstrates how complex generics can increase competition within specialized therapeutic categories where patients may require long-term treatment. For Zydus, being first to market strengthens its U.S. specialty portfolio and commercial presence, while MSN benefits from combining its development and manufacturing capabilities with Zydus’ distribution reach. Offering all five strengths can also support physicians and pharmacies transitioning eligible patients to the generic therapy.
