London-based Fundemental VR will be launching its new Fundamental Surgery technology to train the next generation of life-saving surgeons. The new tech utilizes cutting-edge haptic controls and VR technology to simulate realistic surgical procedures with no risk of injury or death. The technology is incredibly innovative and also manages to run effectively on off-the-shelf hardware and software. The advantages of this system are plentiful, as it allows surgical students the chance to practice their skills and not just observe procedures being completed.
The Fundamental Surgery can run on most modern computers and currently uses an Acer Windows Mixed Reality VR headset and touch controller built by the company 3D Systems. The controllers feature three motors to provide resistance and the software comes pre-installed with multiple training scenarios that replicate both the visual and physical sensations of various operations.
