In an effort to help their homeless population relieve themselves when nature calls, the Miami Downtown Development Authority installed free public bathrooms. The four porta-potties are part of the Pit Stop program. They recently announced they will be extending the program after the first six months saw a reduction in open defecation by 57%.
Earlier the government organization released a poop map to show just how far spread the public pooping problem had become, using emojis to indicate where human waste was found out in just an 8 hour period in the downtown area.
The free public bathrooms have played an important part in decreasing this number and therefore improving public health. This initiative is also restoring some dignity to homeless people.
