The Forest Green Rovers New Stadium is the First Ever All-Wood Design
References: zaha-hadid & archdaily
Zaha Hadid Architects has won an international competition to build a new stadium for the Forest Green Rovers football team thanks to an innovative concept. While most new sports stadiums are resorting to impressive technological feats (venues like the new Yankee Stadium and the upcoming Atlanta Hawks facility come to mind,) the new Forest Green Rovers' building will be the world's first stadium made from wood.
The choice to go with timber over steel or concrete is not purely one of aesthetics. The timber used in the stadium will be sustainably sourced, and virtually every part of the stadium will be made from it, including the structure, the roof cantilevers, and the louvered facade. The material will give the building the lowest embodied carbon of any stadium in the world.
