Folded Paper-Inspired Stools

Vivian Chen Designs the Simplistic Fold Stool with Wood

Vivian Chen is an industrial designer based in North Carolina and she has just created the Fold Stool. The furniture is resting on top of tripod legs at the base and the top has a multi-faceted surface. It is all about how light interacts with the surfaces. Chen explores the interplay of this with its form in an effortless way.

The inspiration behind the Fold stool stems from a simple folded piece of paper. When the paper is creased into sections, Chen noticed that the folds created a dynamic form that reflects and casts light in unexpected ways. She translated the same dynamics and notion onto the chair, seeing where every component interacts with light in a similar way.
