Amazon introduced Alexa+ as a free upgrade on compatible Fire TV hardware, bringing the company’s AI assistant to TVs without requiring a Prime subscription. The rollout automatically upgrades current-generation Fire TV Sticks, the Fire TV Cube, Amazon Ember smart TVs and compatible partner sets, adding conversational search, smart-home controls and AI-powered recommendations.
The service replaces the previous $19.99 monthly cost for non-Prime users and supports natural-language content discovery based on themes, genres, ratings and other attributes rather than specific titles. Alexa+ can also control connected smart-home devices and display Ring camera feeds directly on the TV. Amazon said Alexa+ users have nearly twice as many conversations on Fire TV as users of the original Alexa.
For viewers, the update turns compatible TVs into more interactive entertainment and smart-home hubs, reflecting the broader expansion of generative AI assistants across living-room devices.
