Even though the existence of fun for the whole family is a myth, Google Play is trying with their new developer program showcasing family-friendly apps. Designed For Families lets app publishers to go under an extra review to have their apps deemed family-appropriate.
The Google Play app marketplace already holds high quality, child-targeted content by developers like PBS Kids, Tynker and Crayola that is age-appropriate and both educating and entertaining. But currently these family-friendly apps are mixed in with everything else. This pre-approved designation helps parents kind the kind of apps they feel are most suitable for their children to use and play with.
While this added step in the recently implemented review process could slow things down for developers, consumers will benefit from this move.
