The Tallinn-based interior architect Hanna Karits emphasized the use of modern shapes, natural materials, and an eclectic color palette when designing this Estonian holiday home in the Moonsund archipelago. One of the goes was to create "a soothing environment that references the surrounding forest." For the project, Hanna Karits drew inspiration from the work of "one of her favorite architects, Frank Lloyd Wright," and mid-century modernist summer houses.
Wood is the dominant material in the construction of the Estonian holiday home. Hanna Karits utilized a wooden frame, cross-laminated timber panels, and then thermally treated ashwood for the interior furnishings. In order to diversify the texture, the designer tapped limestone for the floors in communal and circulation spaces like the kitchen and dining area.
