The 270-degree Escape system from Barco could revolutionize the way we watch films. The three-paneled screen is installed in five different movie theaters in the United States so far, and its designer Red Camera Co-Founder Ted Schilowitz predicts it will expand considerably within the next two years.
Composed of three angled screens, the Escape system hopes to deliver an immersive cinema experience more successful than the 3D format. In addition to the standard screen, there are two more angled ones coming off of it that project additional scenery and give the impression of peripheral vision. For the best effect, Gizmodo advises sitting dead center as the seating arrangement vastly affects the viewing experience. This issue will likely be addressed as the product continues development.
