Cadillac's Escalade IQ Reframes Ev Charging in Full-Size SUVs

Cadillac’s Escalade IQ is a full-size electric SUV built around a 205-kWh dual-battery pack, featuring a wiring architecture that lets the system operate at 400 volts while accepting 800 volts split between the two packs. The vehicle combines that large energy reserve with a stated 350-kW peak charging capability, prioritizing range over efficiency.

In testing, the Escalade IQ added 137 miles of range in 15 minutes and 220 miles in 30 minutes, while a 5% to 80% charge took about 42 minutes. Real-world efficiency averaged roughly 2.0 miles per kWh, and a typical 6.6-kW Level 2 charger added only 53 kWh after eight hours. Those figures highlight how much energy the battery can hold and how long it can take to replenish.

For drivers, the large battery makes it more useful to think in miles than percentages, since even a partial charge can represent substantial range. The trade-off is longer charging sessions and more planning around slower Level 2 charging, particularly before long trips.
