Pine Needle Tableware

Abhinav Talwar and Maithri V Develop an Environmental Solution

Many entrepreneurs and innovators are racing to come up with environmental solutions, creating a balance between personal and global problems.

Abhinav Talwar grew up "cradled amidst the beautiful pine-clad hills of Himachal Pradesh." The land is bordered by giant Himalayan pines (Pinus Roxburghii). As a result of all the fallen pine needles, however, the land was often ravaged by rampant forest fires. Talwar set out to come up with a design-forward environmental solution for this issue and together with Maithri V, he began what is now called Vasshin Composites. Started in 2019, the Delhi-based start-up gathers the needles and transforms them into "innovative and eco-friendly tableware and other utility products—from face shields and bowls to glasses and spoons
