Allegro's 'English for Beginners' Ad Features a Christmas Gift

Polish online marketplace 'Allegro' recently released a Christmas ad, called 'English for Beginners,' that will be sure to warm the cockles of even the most cynical Christmas naysayers. Ostensibly highlighting Allegro's ability to bring people what they need during the holiday season, the skillfully treacly ad keep viewers guessing on the payoff until the very end.

The ad begins with an elderly man opening a package that contains a book called 'English for Beginners.' Throughout the ad, viewers follow the decidedly wacky and haplessly charming Pole as he learns various English phrases such as "I love you," "You're perfect," and "I'm gonna kill you" (the latter of which he accidentally picks up while watching an English gangster film.)

Eventually, the man boards an airplane while practicing the phrase "Hi, I am..." Touchingly, it turns out that he is on a trip to meet his English granddaughter, who he greets by saying "Hi, I am your grandpa."
