The world under the sea is a magical place that is even more of a mystery than space and Emily Williams manages to capture that magic in her delicate glass sculptures. Inspired by seaweed, coral, jellyfish and more, the American artist look as though they were found on an alien planet.
Yet Emily Williams begins each masterpiece with straight borosilicate glass rods that are carefully manipulated by a glass torch to form patterns similar to veins and branches. As for her background, The Contemporist writes, "As a child, Williams’ grandmother was a docent at the Smithsonian leading to many artistic and scientific discoveries at a very young age that would deeply influence her decision to pursue an artistic career."
