Volvo More Than Doubles the XC60 and XC90's Electric Range

Long-range hybrid SUVs are extending electric driving capabilities while maintaining gasoline power for longer journeys. Volvo Cars is updating its XC60 and XC90 plug-in hybrids with larger, floor-integrated batteries and more powerful electric motors, more than doubling their electric range compared to existing variants. The models also incorporate upgraded safety technologies, advanced sensing systems and Google Gemini, enabling drivers to use natural language for navigation, messaging and other in-car tasks. Regular over-the-air updates will support continued software improvements.

The expanded range gives Volvo a way to serve drivers interested in electric mobility who may not be ready to rely entirely on battery power. By upgrading two established SUV nameplates rather than introducing entirely separate models, Volvo can build on existing customer recognition while supporting its electrification strategy. The approach could also help maintain plug-in hybrid demand as charging infrastructure and EV adoption continue developing.
