Designer Carolin Peitsch created the concept for this piece of eco furniture made from washed up pieces of eelgrass.
The 'Zostera Stool' features a seat constructed from a special eco material constructed from unsightly brown grass that every year washes up onto the shore of German beaches. Normally this naturally occurring and ultimately unwanted grass would be shipped off to landfills, but Peitsch decided to find another use for it.
The end result is a lightweight fiber-reinforced eco plastic made from eelgrass that has been set in place with a natural bio-resin produced from vegetable oil. The organic material is colored depending on the shade of the grass, and provides a great solution to a pesky waste problem that eco-conscious consumers will surely appreciate.
