The Edge of Calm Villa Reshapes a Dubai Residence with Restraint

The Edge of Calm villa is a renovation by designer D’Ora Tokai that reconfigures a Dubai Hills Estate home around proportion, light, and simplified form. The project removes much of the original interior to create an uninterrupted flow between new extensions, including an expanded kitchen, a combined living and dining area and a larger main suite with dual walk-in wardrobes.

The material palette centers on oak herringbone flooring, microcement surfaces and selective use of Calacatta Vagli marble to frame architectural elements. Brushed stainless steel and silver oak introduce subtle contrast without shifting the overall calm atmosphere. The redesign incorporates warm-tinted glass for cabinetry, tables and pocket doors, producing variations in tone as natural light changes throughout the day. Neutral spaces gain gentle definition from muted color accents in the bedrooms, while a custom handwoven rug anchors the primary living area.
