Researchers Made a Sound-Based Drone Navigation System

Researchers from Purdue University created a drone navigation system that uses echolocation. The system operates using only four microphones and a speaker, which combine to create an echo to measure its relative distance to other objects.

Currently, the drone navigation system can only be used when the drone is stationary, however, the researchers are working towards adapting the system to work during active flight. The researchers are also troubleshooting potential problems that could arise with the navigation system.

Overall the new system shows promise for the future of drone navigation, and it could have wide-reaching implications. The navigation system could also be optimal for night flights, as it does not require light to orient itself.
