Microsoft has unveiled its DreamWalker VR system, which will allow a user to walk through the real world while having a VR experience. Microsoft's DreamWalker VR will be able to adapt to a given route plan, which will allow the user to experience a synthesized environment during routine walks.
The system is able to monitor the user's surroundings using inside-out tracking, one dual-band GPS sensor, and RGB depth cameras. If the system detects an object, it will appear as an obstacle in VR so the user knows to avoid it. Additionally, before the user begins to use the DreamWaker VR system, the path chosen will correspond to a VR environment that will be similar to the outside world. The system will also produce objects in order to redirect the user as needed.
