When talking about dreams, the first thing to understand is REM cycles. REM stands for rapid eye movement and refers to the speed at which your eyes move around while you sleep. When your eyes move while you're sleeping it is because you’re looking around in your dream.

This infographic advises you begin by recording your dreams for two to three weeks to get an idea of your dream content. Then, start looking for dream indicators so when you identify them in your dreams you’ll realize it is a dream.
