Traditional Zapotec Portraits

Diego Huerta Captures the Colorful Side of Mexican Culture

Born and raised in Mexico, Diego Huerta now lives in Austin, Texas. But that hasn't stopped him from paying tribute to his heritage any chance he gets. His latest photography project revolves around the traditional local Zapotec culture located in Southern Mexico. Full of ornate costume and colorful backdrops often associated with the country, it's easy to see why Diego Huerta would want to shine a light on it.

Dubbed Inside Oaxaca, Diego Huerta focuses on portraits of the people. Old to young, he shows them in their natural habitat, which is beautiful to behold. Daily life seems to stand still has they do for the camera. Each image tells a story while inviting Diego Huerta's audience to perhaps travel to see it all in person.
