Twitter has indicated that it will create deepfake rules to govern its platform, which will be used against deepfakes that could cause harm. Twitter made the announcement through a tweet and stated that the new deepfake rules will target content that is synthetic or otherwise manipulated. The company will run a trial period, where it will take input from Twitter users in order to figure out a set of best practices for the deepfake rules.
The new regulations for the platform are intended to reduce the potential harm caused by doctored media and to stop the spread of fake content. Deepfake technology continues to improve and to be a potential problem for social networks. However, Twitter is clearly taking steps to address potential issues surrounding deepfake technology.
