At first glance, these cosmic watercolor paintings may be mistaken for artistic captures of real planets. After all, there is something spectacularly surreal about such photographs. Yet instead of being photoshopped onto a vast white canvas, these images are actual watercolor paintings that could also be likened to wine rings from a used wineglass.
Created by Stella Maria Baer, an artist based in Connecticut, the cosmic watercolor paintings have so far earned her a whopping 100,000 followers on Instagram. Using this social media network as a virtual art gallery of sorts, this exposure has meant only big things for her career. So far she has painted painted Saturn, Mars, Pluto and Jupiter, several of the moons in our solar system as well as Earth’s moon. They were inspired by the April 2014 total lunar eclipse.
