H30 Architects Designs the Communal Barbecue in Costa Brava

Spanish design firm H30 Architects has designed the Communal Barbecue space on the Costa Brava, located in Catalonia. The space is a public barbecue which is detailed with deep blue tonal tiles and topped by a sculptural pergola. The project is found just at the edge of Castell d'Aro. The team wanted to transform the site into a park, but the concept changed when the studio saw how locals gathered at the barbecue over weekends.
H30 Architects co-founder Joan Gener speaks on the design project, "It's a way of making the barbecue feel more permanent and intentional, rather than something left behind in a parking lot. We played with references including the witch's hat, the Hansel and Gretel cottage, and that strange attraction people have towards fire. The result is a structure that works both functionally and visually – it protects, signals and shapes the space."
