Giant Digital Clocks

The CL:OC by Grosse 8 is an Utterly Hypnotic Art Installation

The CL:OC by Grosse 8, a studio based in Cologne, Germany, is a mesmerizing art installation that bridges the gap between analog and digital designs. Although it would be easy to dismiss it as a giant digital clock based solely on looks, when physically in its presence people will be able to enjoy it on an entirely different level. Visitors will hear the whir of 28 motors as they drive a complex pulley system to rearrange bright cathode tubes every minute.

Although CL:OC by Grosse 8 is clearly being presented as an art installation, one that will hypnotize any person who sets foot in front of it, Fast Co. Design reports that creator Stephan Müller intended "to make a 'useful' light installation that thinks beyond the limits of the screen."
