The Business Association of the Danish city of Aalborg is using a network of smart sensors to monitor and analyze the Christmas market shopping habits of its citizens. The initiative makes use of BlipTrack technology that tracks shoppers' cellphones and tablets to provide data that can be used to optimize shopping spaces and streamline the flow of traffic among other things.
The sensor network will observe the number of shoppers and keep tabs on when and where they spend time, allowing local authorities to control the flow of people and cars. It will also give retailers the opportunity to adjust how many staff are available at any given time or adjust opening and closing hours to account for demand.
