eBay's Christmas Displays Let Customers Buy From Real-Life Windows
Alyson Wyers — December 15, 2014 — Business
These interactive Christmas displays allowed customers to purchase products using their mobile devices. Inspired by the unique way in which Australians celebrate the holidays in the southern hemisphere, eBay Australia created pop-up retail displays called Shoppable Windows.
From the December 4th to the 7th, Sydney's Custom House Forecourt visitors looked at the items in the Christmas displays, saw the details on installed screens and then bought goods directly using their smartphones. The eBay Shoppable Windows consisted of four gift-like boxes, curated to appeal to four audiences: the Lycra Mum, Daddy Cool, Teenage Dreamer and Little Princess.
The holiday campaign put a new spin on the e-retailer's model. Open for 24 hours, the windows were the first of their kind in Australia, although similar displays were installed for Kate Spade in NYC last year.
