Tibi Spring 2009
References: style & myitthings
China was a heavy influence on designers this year, including Tibi whose Spring 2009 collection featured fashions that could be best described as Asian fusion.
That’s not surprising considering the label’s creator, Amy Smilovic, began her business in Hong Kong. Perhaps the media attention that was on China due to the Beijing Olympics also aided as inspiration, but there were hints of other cultural influences as well, including accents like the Japanese Obi. Seemingly randomly, golden gladiator sandals and harem pants were also thrown in.
The elements that were particularly reminiscent of China included tassels, the pieces in the lucky color red, and the high-colored gowns cut in traditional Chinese shapes.
