Vinyard-Bound Residential Projects

Jorge Garibay Architects Designs the Casa San Francisco

The Casa San Francisco is a residential project situated within a vineyard on the outskirts of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

Designed by Jorge Garibay Architects, the architectural concept is deeply rooted in the historical context of the region. The firm drew parallels between the 16th-century introduction of winemaking and convent architecture by Franciscan friars and the home's modern form. The design philosophy explores the influence of time and environment, or 'terroir,' on both wine and building materials.

Casa San Francisco is composed of five separate volumes connected by a central corridor, strategically orienting public spaces and private bedrooms towards various landscaped views of the surrounding nature and vineyards. The material palette is intentionally restrained. Jorge Garibay Architects utilizes locally sourced stone, unpolished marble, and hand-applied lime paint to create a monolithic, weathered aesthetic..
