Made by Italian design and technology studio NextMade, CactusNext combines several disparate concepts into one odd — and oddly charming — set of home decor items. The CactusNext pieces are corrugated cardboard structures shaped like flora (cacti in particular) that are embedded with specially designed technology such that they serve as air purifiers.

The CactusNext pieces are quirky bits of interior design, but don't let that cuteness belie the impressive air purification system inside. According to the product description, CactusNexts break down bacteria, fine dust, and pollutants through the use of filters and a fan inside the cardboard structure. The cardboard is coated with a surface treatment, and the filter uses chitosan, titanium oxide, and an ultraviolet LED to cleanse the air. The result is an ironic bit of design that uses technology to fulfill a task often left to plants.
