Architecture firm Hawkins\Brown works together with engineering studio Webb Yates to create the Brick from a Stone: Arch Revival installation. It is comprised of two hyperbolic arches, which are made from bricks of unwanted stone. It was installed on Clerkenwell Green with the goal of honoring the beauty and versatile use of the British stone.
Co-founder of Webb Yates, Steve Webb explained the design process to Dezeen, "Stone has the potential to replace many fossil fuel-era construction materials – a beautiful and natural material solution to our climate problems and a synthesis of craft technology and nature. Our addiction to brickwork is nonsensical and terrible for the environment. Stone bricks might be a great transition material to wean us off the bad stuff."
