Compact Travel Trailers

The Bothy Caravan Reduces Barefoot’s Design to a Smaller Towable Form

The Bothy is Barefoot Caravans’ most compact travel trailer to date, developed as a lighter alternative to the brand’s existing Petite model. Introduced in late 2025, the trailer retains Barefoot’s rounded fiberglass shell while removing the built-in washroom to reduce overall size and towing weight. This adjustment allows the trailer to be towed by smaller vehicles and some electric cars, expanding its usability beyond traditional caravan owners.

The interior layout is organized around flexible, multiuse elements rather than fixed rooms. A central seating area converts into sleeping space for up to three people, while a compact galley includes a sink, work surface, and storage. A slide-out Porta-Potti replaces a permanent bathroom, and additional storage is integrated into overhead and under-seat compartments.

Micro-towable Design
Smaller, lighter trailers enable towing by compact cars and many electric vehicles, widening the market beyond traditional heavy-duty tow vehicles.
Modular Interior Systems
Flexible, multiuse furnishings and slide-out sanitary solutions concentrate living functions into reconfigurable footprints that reduce permanent room divisions.
Lightweight Composite Shells
Rounded fiberglass and other lightweight materials deliver structural strength with reduced mass, shifting performance constraints for small towable units.

Who This Affects Most

Recreational Vehicle Manufacturing
Compact caravan designs create opportunities for companies to rethink chassis, insulation, and storage integration for a smaller, lighter product segment.
Automotive and Electric Vehicle Accessories
The ability of EVs and compact cars to tow reduced-weight trailers suggests growth in specialized hitch systems, range-management tools, and lightweight towing kits.
Outdoor Hospitality and Glamping
Smaller towables with modular interiors enable higher-density site layouts and diversified accommodation offerings that appeal to experience-focused travelers.
