Due to the shape of most books, most bookstore designs adopt fairly regular bookcases and shelving units for the sake of practicality. The artful Zhongshu Bookstore in Xi’an, China created by Wutopia Lab sets itself apart in this manner with an interior that incorporates curvaceous elements into freestanding display fixtures, wall fixtures, doorways, ceiling details and more—as such, the space is said to have "no sharp corner."
Some of the central parts of the space include a public reading area and a hidden library for children that's styled like an imaginative forest. While many libraries and bookstores embrace the use of dark and natural wood, the standout Zhongshu Bookstore design opts for a bright and uplifting all-white scheme.
