Lane Home-Transformed Cafes

Neri&Hu Designs the New Blue Bottle Store Location in Shanghai

Chinese studio Neri&Hi introduces its new stainless-steen shed in the form of the Blue Bottle store location in the form of a Shanghainese lane house. It is the newest cafe in the location by Zhangyuan in the area of the 140-year-old traditional Shikumen mansion. It aims to create "an intimate and nostalgic experience and bring back the memories of 'home'."

Shikumen is a lane house that is traditional in design and notable during the 19th century with high brick walls that close off a small front yard. During this project, the studio kept the brick walls that already exist that pair perfectly with the wooden doors and windows of the original architectural facades of the structure.
