Rural Stone Farm Conversions

Betyle Studio historic farm building renovation updates an agricultural structure for modern use by reworking the internal layout and improving access to light and circulation. The project retains the original stone envelope and timber framing while introducing new openings sized to suit contemporary residential requirements. Interior walls are selectively removed or repositioned to create continuous living areas that fit within the proportions of the existing frame. New joinery pieces are built to match the depth of the stone walls and to stabilize areas where materials had deteriorated.

The renovation also adds upgraded flooring, insulation, and building systems to meet current performance standards. Window and door replacements follow the original rhythm of the façade but increase transparency compared with the former farm configuration. Materials such as lime plaster, natural timber, and stone are used to maintain visual consistency with the building’s rural context. The redesign supports everyday domestic use while preserving the character of the historic structure.
