Alvisi Kirimoto Adds Contemporary Elements to Basilica Di Massenzio

— October 22, 2025 — Art & Design
The architecture studio Alvisi Kirimoto has completed a project to integrate new functional elements into the ancient Basilica di Massenzio, a significant historical site within Rome's Colosseum Archaeological Park.

The central component of this intervention is a modular, multi-purpose stage constructed from steel and wood. This feature is strategically placed to reconnect the three aisles of the basilica's central nave. The upgraded Basilica di Massenzio is intended to host a variety of cultural events, including performances and lectures. The new design incorporates features like integrated seating and accessible ramps to facilitate visitor movement and contemplation. The overall initiative also encompassed the renewal of the exterior forecourt with traditional materials and the installation of informational displays, with the collective aim of enhancing the site's utility without detracting from its historical integrity.
