BASF's Care Creations developed a new ingredient for cosmetic formulas. The German multinational chemical company searched for ingredients to decrease visible signs of fatigue, stress and aging around the eye area. The fucoidan-rich algae extract ingredient was named Seanactiv by company chemists. The seaweed used in Seanactiv is harvested manually under a government license to ensure ethical collection practices and allow the ecosystem to regenerate. This selective extraction process is done gently to avoid harming the environment. Seanactiv formulated at 1% in cream was tested on 24 healthy women volunteers aged 18 and 65. The results proved a significant reduction of dark circles within one week.
