The Automatic app has been recently updated to utilize iBeacon technology, Apple’s Bluetooth 4.0-based micro-positioning wireless standard. By doing so, it increases its smart driving capabilities to include auto-payments for parking or gas fill-ups and more. Although providing driving feedback and crash alerts is the Automatic app's priority, the convenience of such added features will appeal to tech-savvy drivers.
Through the iBeacon technology, the Automatic app will essentially create a system for users to securely identify themselves and their cars to various automotive service providers. The company provides an example, "Say you’re leaving a parking garage and instead of stopping to pay an attendant with your credit card, Automatic wirelessly signals the gate that you’re there using iBeacon, deducts the necessary funds from a credit card linked to your Automatic account, and opens the gate."
