Google works on a new Augmented Reality Microscope prototype with the help of the Department of Defense. Together, the two incorporate artificial intelligence enhancements to advance the visual indicators. This includes components such as object boundaries or heatmaps in real-time.
The additions that are powered by AI help make it easier to classify collected samples and identify any cancer cells or pathogens. This project was first teased in 2018 and hasn't been used to diagnose patients just yet. Currently, the prototype has 13 versions of the ARM and still needs significant testing before it can be applied to clinical use. Google explains that it is intended to be "retrofitted into existing light microscopes found in hospitals and clinics."
