ArchieMite is a creation from Australian distillery Archie Rose that is said to have a buttery, yeasty flavor profile that's similar to Vegemite. To create the Vegemite liqueur, the distillery used more than 55 pounds of butter and 30 pounds of sourdough to emulate the taste of buttered toast. As Archie Rose puts it, its product has "a big, mitey character at the front followed by biscuity, bready notes."
While many liqueurs explore sweet notes, this one plays up buttery, umami and savory flavors, offering an unconventional way for people to experience a familiar product. As Vegemite is a polarizing spread, the limited-edition Vegemite-flavored alcohol product promises to be just as unique and likely elicit similar responses in those who are adventurous enough to try it.
Just 3,000 of ArchieMite are set to be produced this spring.
