ESPN and Lucasfilm are turning Super Bowl LXI into a real-time animated football broadcast with 'Star Wars Funday Football,' which re-creates each play as animated avatars within the Star Wars universe. The alternate telecast runs alongside the standard game on February 14, 2027, giving viewers a second way to follow the action.
The presentation streams on Disney+ and the ESPN App and also airs on Disney Channel and Disney XD. It will be available live in more than 155 markets worldwide, and Anthony Daniels returns as the voice of C-3PO. That reach gives the broadcast a family-friendly, franchise-driven format that can sit alongside the main game instead of competing with it.
A live animated Super Bowl telecast widens the event's reach beyond the usual sports audience and makes the game accessible across streaming and linear TV at the same time. It also turns ESPN's Funday Football into a repeatable template for other major live events, with real-time animation handling the heavy lift.
