This anatomical illustration series by comic artist and illustrator Kate Lacour shows the human body in a surreal and beautifully grotesque way. In the 'Bodies' series, the artist tries to portray the human body in a way she describes as “body horror beauty.”
Taking on anatomy illustrations -- but not the standard ones you would have seen in biology textbooks as a curios child -- Lacour twists our idea of these drawings to create art that has a religious or spiritual feel because of the iconography used. Many of the pieces in her anatomical illustration series feature symbolic poses like the Lotus position -- a pose that is part of Hindu, Jain and Buddhist traditions -- but in this case, it is fused with transparent and headless bodies.
