Slack recently entered into a new agreement with Amazon Web Services, where Slack audio and video calls will rely on Amazon Chime. Amazon Chime is a multimedia calling tool that was created to help businesses communicate over one application. Integration with Amazon Chime will allow slack to easily upgrade its backend services, where new functions can easily be added to the platform, including mobile video support and transcriptions. The agreement also dictates that Amazon employees will have access to Slack for company operations.
Overall the agreement will help Slack compete with the many other video chat platforms that are emerging due to the increased demand. Additionally, it will provide better solutions for organizations to communicate over Slack as they navigate working from home.
