Compact Timber Homes

House in Saidera by Akio Isshiki Architects is a Family Residence in Osaka

House in Saidera is a compact residential project in Osaka designed by Akio Isshiki Architects for a family of five. The two-story house occupies a narrow site surrounded by neighboring residences and is organized to maximize usable interior space within a modest footprint. The exterior is finished in darkened timber cladding, giving the building a subdued presence that blends with its residential surroundings.

Inside, the structure is expressed through exposed wooden framing that remains visible throughout the living spaces. A single layer of cedar boards functions simultaneously as the floor for the upper level and the ceiling for the ground floor, reducing material use while maintaining structural clarity. The layout places shared living, dining, and kitchen functions at the center of the plan, with private areas arranged around them.
