Aira is a comprehensive technology platform that is designed to make it possible for blind and low-vision individuals to enjoy greater independence and mobility in the urban environment. This system uses the best of smart glass, cloud and Internet of Things technology to make it happen.
The base of the Aira platform is the pairing up of wearable smart glasses with the user's data-equipped smartphone. Users can connect with a live Aira agent by tapping their smart glass, which causes an incoming request to notify trained agents through a special algorithm. Once the agent accepts a request, they can they use their dashboard to see what the user sees. This allows them to transmit live updates and directions to Google Maps, GPS and Street View whilst also assisting with object and face recognition, distance estimation, barrier warnings and so on.
Ultimately, the Aira platform combines the advantages of smart glass technology, the Internet of Things and personalized human assistance to help blind people better navigate their environment.
