Low-Vision Shopping Partnerships

Walmart and Aira Partnered to Support Blind Shoppers

Walmart and Aira have announced a partnership that will benefit blind and low-vision shoppers by providing them with complimentary access to app-based interpretation when in-store. The partnership will see shoppers able to use the app where they will be provided with sighted interpreters who will provide real-time information regarding what's around them. Aira can be accessed free of charge via remote access through a smartphone camera or a compatible piece of wearable technology.

Chief of Blindness Initiatives at Aira Everette Bacon commented on the Walmart and Aira partnership saying, "I think the thing they’re going to gain the most from our partnership is this demonstration to the world that Walmart and Aira really do think about the customers they serve. That’s a testament to the kind of service Walmart has provided for years and wants to continue to lead on.”
