Nationwide has become the first major banking provider in the UK to publish detailed access guides for every one of its 605 branches. These resources were produced in partnership with accessibility experts AccessAble and are linked from Nationwide’s online branch finder.
Each detailed access guide notes important branch feature information — from inclusive design sensibilities such as step-free entry, hearing loops, and lowered counters to the availability of British Sign Language interpreters, and even the location of domestic abuse safe spaces. Over 500 of these access guides are already live, and the remainder are scheduled for completion by the end of May 2026.
Nationwide and leading disabled access organizations are taking this as an opportunity to "urge businesses to publish access information online." Access guides are important when considering that the "collective spending power of disabled households – known as the Purple Pound – stands at £446 billion a year, yet many businesses are still failing to address disabled consumer needs."
