East Midlands Railway — an entity operated by Transport UK — has introduced Symbol-Friendly Station Guides. This is essentially a series of visual navigation aids and the resources were developed in partnership with Widgit Software. This venture delivers the first official symbol-friendly train company in the United Kingdom.

East Midlands Railway's Symbol-Friendly Station Guides combines plain English text with standardized pictographic symbols that represent words or concepts. These resources cover essential station information such as entrances, exits, ticket facilities, platforms, step-free access routes, and staff assistance locations. These materials are available online for passengers to view or download before traveling.

Philippa Cresswell, Customer Experience Director at East Midlands Railway, shared: "These new Symbol-Friendly Station Guides are a practical step forward, helping customers better understand our stations and travel with greater confidence."
