Gavin Maddock Design Studio designed the 'Pearl Bay Residence,' a contemporary home located in Yzerfontein, near Cape Town, South Africa. The house features a simple west coast aesthetic of a textural white house.
The home is bordered by a nature reserve that adjoins the ocean, making the views truly spectacular. Maddock wanted to take advantage of the coastal dune environment in his design; however, the front dune posed a challenge by sitting higher than the rest. In order to accommodate the dunes, home and views, Maddock structured the house as a double storey building with imaginative outdoor spaces. The ocean view is visible from every room inside.
The architect describes the home's construction by saying "Both the front and rear pavilions are two storeys and the windows are sliced through to the parapet to emphasize the verticality[...]There is a seamless flow between these spaces and a sense of uninterrupted connection between inside and outside."
